How to Apply

1Entry Requirements

1) Applicants for Master programs should have a Bachelor degree.
2) Applicants for Doctoral programs should have a Master degree.
3) Language skills requirements:
  A. For programs taught in Chinese: Applicants for programs of humanities, arts, management, journalism and law should pass Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) band 6 or new HSK band 5-score 180, and those for science and engineering programs should pass Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) band 4 or new HSK band 4-score 195.
  B. For programs offered in English: See the requirements of the programs.
  C. For Doctoral Program applicants: If the English proficiency is sufficient, the Chinese language requirement could be adjusted for some majors.

2Application Documents

1) The completed Foreigner's Application Form for Admission to Graduate Programs of Tsinghua University with 2-inch recent photo, signed by the applicant.
2) Personal statement. Doctoral program applicants also need to submit brief introduction of research experience.
3) The original or the notarized degree certificate or proof of education in academic institution (need to submit original or notarized degree certificate after being awarded), and academic transcript. Master program applicants need to submit bachelor degree certificate. Doctoral program applicants need to submit master degree certificate. The degree certificate and academic transcript must be officially sealed.
4) Copy of HSK certificate and score report (unless a waiver is approved), and show original certificate.
5) Two academic recommendation letters from scholars of associate professorship or higher (must show referee’s phone number and email address on the letter).
6) Copy of the page with personal information in the passport (personal and ordinary passport).
7) Original GRE or GMAT certificate if apply to study in School of Economics and Management.
8) The completed Application Form for Tsinghua University Scholarship (if applicable, original).
9) The application fee is RMB 600 (non-refundable).
10) The application documents of programs offered in English: See the requirements of the programs.
11) The certificates provided should be the original documents in Chinese or in English; otherwise notarial translations in Chinese or English are required. None of the above application documents will be returned.
 

3Application Procedure

Step 1: Online Application
Complete On-line Application on the website of Foreign Student Affairs Office, Tsinghua University (http://intlstudent.cic.tsinghua.edu.cn/app). Print and sign the Application Form generated by the system after the application status changes to “verified”.
Step 2: Documents Submission
Please submit the application documents listed above to Overseas Cooperation Office, Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University, by post mail or in person.
Step 3: Application Fee Payment
Two ways to pay application fee:
1) Pay online using credit card;
After your online application form is verified or the materials are received by Tsinghua University, the staff will make you the online payment draft, and at the same time, an email will be automatically sent out to remind you to pay the application fee via the online application system.
2) Pay in cash at the Foreign Student Affairs Office (Room 120, Zijing Building 22) of Tsinghua University.

4Scholarships

1) Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS)
The qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS). Applicants should apply to China Scholarship Council (CSC) (Website: http://www.csc.edu.cn) through the recommendations from Chinese Embassies or Consulates, or relevant organizations in the home countries of the applicants between November and April (varied for different countries). Please find out the application deadline for your country in advance.

The applicants may also apply for Chinese Government Scholarship with the recommendations from Tsinghua University. But the number of the recommended applicants is very limited, and the applicants should be excellent among those who are not studying in China. For application of this scholarship, please complete and submit the Application Form for Tsinghua University Scholarship along with other application documents.
 

2) Beijing Government Scholarship /Tsinghua University Scholarship
In addition to Chinese Government Scholarship, the applicants may choose to apply for Beijing Government Scholarship /Tsinghua University Scholarship, which supports full or partial tuition. For application of this scholarship, please complete and submit the Application Form for Tsinghua University Scholarship along with other application documents.

3) GSST International Scholarships
Students who will study in Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University (GSST) may be eligible for GSST International Scholarships. For details please visit http://www.sz.tsinghua.edu.cn/en or contact Overseas Cooperation Office, Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University.

5Application Deadlines

·For Graduate Programs delivered in Chinese: 
  Phase 1:
November 1,2011 -- December 31, 2011 
  Phase 2:January 1, 2012 -- February 29, 2012
  Both the Online Application and a complete set of Application documents should be completed and the package should be received by February 29, 2012.
  Please note that for the Government or University scholarship applicants, online application and all the application documents should be submitted before December 31, 2011.
·For Graduate programs delivered in English: starting November 1st 2011, till the deadlines specified by the programs.

6Assessment

The admission committee in the department/school will assess the application documents and select applicants for further examination or interview. The applicants selected will be notified.

7Enquiry and Admission Notice

The applicants will be admitted after they pass the examination or interview, and approved by Tsinghua University International Student Admission Committee. Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202/JW201), Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, and Instructions of Tsinghua University Foreign Student Dormitory Application System will be issued by Foreign Student Affairs Office. Admission documents of Chinese Government Scholarship holders will be issued by recommended scholarship organizations (excluded the scholarship holders recommended by Tsinghua University). Prior to this, the applicants may check admission status via the On-line Application System on the website of Foreign Student Affairs Office. (For MBA and IMBA applicants, please inquire via school websites).

8Visa Application and Enrolment

The admitted students should bring their personal and ordinary passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202/ JW201), and original Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners as well as other original documents of physical examination to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for student visa (X visa).

Students who intend to live in the dormitory on Beijing campus shall apply for the room online during the dates specified on the Instructions of Tsinghua University Foreign Student Dormitory Application System. For Chinese Government full scholarship holders, the dormitory on campus will be reserved by the university. Students shall come to Foreign Student Affairs Office, Tsinghua University for registration during the dates indicated on the Admission Notice. Students must use personal and ordinary passport and X visa, and must apply for Residence Permit within 30 days after arrival in China.

Students who intend to stay in the dormitory on Shenzhen campus shall contact Overseas Cooperation Office of Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University prior to their arrival in Shenzhen.

9Accommodation Reservation

Beijing Campus: Due to the limitation of dormitory capacity, on-campus rooms can only be reserved for those who have successfully applied on line. Tsinghua University offers three different types of rooms to international students: Single Room (Private bathroom/toilet), AB Room (Shared bathroom/toilet), and Double Room (Public bathroom and toilet). Included with each room are bedclothes, color TV, air-conditioning, telephone, internet access and furniture. Those who fail to apply for the dorm on line need to find the accommodation off campus by themselves.

Shenzhen Campus: Students shall contact Overseas Cooperation Office of Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University by email prior to their arrival in Shenzhen. Non catering en-suite student apartments are available on Shenzhen Campus.
