On April 26th, Prof. Wolfgang A. Herrmann, the President of Technische Universitaet Muenchen and Tsinghua University Council Chairman Prof. Hu Heping signed an agreement and announced the creation of Tsinghua University - Technische Universitaet Muenchen Joint Research Institute for Advanced Power Sources for Electric Vehicles (IAPS). The signing ceremony took place at Tsinghua’s Beijing main campus, in the presence of Dr. Horst Seehofer, Bavarian Minister-President, Dr. Michael Friedrich Wilhelm Schaefer, German Ambassador for China, Prof. KANG Kejun, Tsinghua Vice President and Prof. KANG Feiyu, Vice Dean of GST.
The agreement combines academic researchers from TUM, Tsinghua and GST, with joint research projects focusing “power management, safety and long lifetime of Li-Ion batteries, alternative electricity storage, fuel production and conversion, DAFC 200 ℃–300 ℃, and interface phenomena in power sources”. Research Institute for Advanced Materials and Laboratory of Green Chemical Power at GST will be involved in the research projects.
The creation of IAPS has important significance in promoting application of advanced power sources in Electric car industry and boosting development of new energy technologies.
