On June 17th the final of the Second Shenzhen Youth Entrepreneurship Contest ‘Lijin Challenge Cup’ was held at The Pavilion Hotel by the Shenzhen Communist Youth League. Tsinghua graduate students won half of the available ten prizes, winning two silver medals and three bronze medals.

The contest began in January and involved several stages. The finalists came through the procedures of publicizing tours around the universities, preliminary evaluation of the participating projects, expertise training programme and the semi-final. The participating projects ranged from the high-tech field to daily necessities, such as the matching of clothes, electronic products and chemical products.

Under the organization of the Youth League General Branch and Scientific Association, five of the seven participating projects from our school progressed to the final. In the end, after the fierce competition, two projects won silver medals and the other three projects won bronze medals. The two projects in second place were ‘wireless intelligent monitoring platform based on CDMA’ and ‘anode materials for lithium ion batteries’. The three projects in third place were ‘lighting system of high power LED’, ‘ultra-wideband wireless communication IC of Jizhi Technology Limited Company’ and ‘F101 intelligent queuing system’.

While preparing for this contest, Office of Graduate Student Work and teachers offered great support to the contestants. Associate Professor Yang Wu, from the Logistics and Management Division, guided the contestants in writing their scheme. The members of Scientific Association carefully organized and coordinated the work during the whole process of enrolment, preliminary evaluation, semi-final and final, which helped our contestants to score better achievements.

The Lijin Challenge Cup, held for the second time, is conducted by the Shenzhen Communist Youth League. It aims at inspiring the innovative spirit of outstanding youths in universities and cultivating their innovative abilities and their awareness of starting their own business. The prize-winners will have the opportunity to go to Hong Kong SAR to observe and study the youth entrepreneurship there and enhance their capability of carrying out their ideas.
